Speaker Pt 6

Here are some renders of my final image

Speaker Pt 5

Once I had the scene set I imported the arm and included a shirt and ring on his finger to give it more life.
From there I created the animation in Maya, which included moving the arm and camera. Once the keys were set I rendered and exported the animation, which I then altered in Photoshop.

before Photoshop

after Photoshop, which includes altered brightness and blurred shadows.

At first I was happy with how I tweaked the scenes, but once in the video I realised how yellow it was. I wanted to the scene to feel warm and bright yellow walls were not right. So after more manipulation on both Photoshop and after effects, I ended up with this:

Speaker Pt 4

For the next part I started on the final trumpet and the composition of the scene. I wanted to set the speaker in a house environment that is a mixture of warmth from wood yet still be contemporary.

Initial renders of the speaker and iPhone

I used various normal and bump maps to create the texture and look of brass, horn and highly polished wood.

The set the scene a bit more I also included lights and a screen on the phone.

First try at setting the scene. The wood doesn't look realistic and the wallpaper is too busy.

I worked on the wooden shelf, it now looking more as how it should.

I next decided to turn my attention to the lighting, I found the original lighting too dark and red. I used the sun light setting on Maya to give the scene a more gentle look.

Wanting to make the scene feel more 'lived in', I started to create a few bits and bobs often thrown onto a shelf or table, these include keys, papers and pens.

Here I find the walls too bland.

I am now happy with the 'messiness' created on the shelf.

Final rendering before I turn to the animation. I wanted to draw your eye across the scene and pick up on the little details until you finally arrive at the speaker.

Speaker pt 3

Here is my model of an iPhone. I ensured that there were several seperate layers for me to render later. The phone itself, the speakers and button, the screen and then the glass.

Speaker pt 2

Next I moved onto modelling a hand which will be featured in my animation.

I started off by making a box hand in Maya to get the basic shape.

I tweaked and smoothed out the hand until I had a result I was happy with.

I then dropped it into Mudbox.

My first step was to bump up the divisions until around level 7, giving me a better starting point.

I used several different techniques to add pores and wrinkles onto the hand before creating a normal map and going back to Maya.

Once back in Maya I added the texture and a colour map onto the model, giving a slightly more realistic look. I hope later to possibly add fine hair and further details, including a sleeve to improve the overall look.

From there I set up a basic rig in the hand in order for me to better manipulate it when it comes to animating.

This was the final look of my first render.

Speaker pt1

Here are three versions of my trumpet and horn speaker, each with a different base. Trumpet made on Rhino, the horn on 3D coat and the bases were all on a mixture of Rhino and 3D coat. The idea is all three bases are made from wood, but the bases in image 1 and 3 would be highly polished, where image 2 is a piece of tree with bark.
After looking at these I think it would best to go with the first image as the base gives it a modern and cleaner look, unlike the others.

How I work

This is a quick post just to show how I draw go from a 3D coat model to the final rendered image.
Each picture differs in how I go through the process and what type of textures I use, but this will give you a general idea.

Choke

I wanted to experiment with a different facial expression and an action, so I picked someone being choked as it gave me a chance to try out a pain filled expression along with a hand.

Improvement

So I only started this style of drawing yesterday, in 24 hours I have done an extra two drawings and I have to say, I can already see a vast improvement.
Here is the first:
A queen, but this time I tried to draw hair. I also added veins and ageing to her skin. As my mum pointed out her hair seemed a bit static and as if it was a later addition, so I did another design:
This time a Disney/Pixar Brave inspired warrior. I tried to add more life to the eyes and expression, I also tried to make the hair less static by adding wisps and a broader range of colour. On top of that I added a few 'imperfections' which includes a mole on his right shoulder and a scar on his left.
I am proud with how quickly I have improved with this technique and I hope to keep getting better.

Character designs

Here are a load of character designs I did, first is a Faun:

Secondly is a man, that seems to have got himself into a bit of trouble. First I sketched it in Photoshop to get an idea of the character, then I modelled it in 3D coat to get a better idea of form and the shadow. Then lastly I moved it back into Photoshop to colour texture and add detailing.

Accidental Fan Art

This picture started off as a bit of colour experimentation and doodles to wind me down before I went to bed. Four hours later I ended up with this, not sure how, but clearly if I don't think my art turns out better. Now I will make sure I definitely get to bed as I have to be up in four hours!

You'll never see me cry
Character belongs to Disney, artwork belongs to me.

Frozen Fan Art

I can't help myself, I have to put these on. I have seen Frozen three times now and would love to see it more, but I can't until the DVD comes out. So for now I will have to settle for doing a couple of fan arts. They are just quick paintings I've been doing on Photoshop when taking a break from my Uni work.
First is Princess Anna, and the second is Anna's older sister Queen Elsa.

The characters belong to Disney.

Tea party Pt2

So here is the second instalment of Nina creates a tea party. I have added a few extra pieces of my model theses include a swanky new fireplace with tiles and soon logs, a window with curtains, a fancy sideboard with about the same amount of books I have currently bought for my dissertation, and last but not least, a door!
On the table I have also included an ashtray with cigarettes, cutlery and soon there will be a roast chicken with carrots.

Below is a screenshot of one of the people I am going to make for the tea party, he is number one of four. He looks a bit boxy at the moment but he will look cool at the end.

Teaparty

As a short four week project at uni we have to create a tea party scene in Rhino and Maya then animate it. Instead of a tea party I have decided to create a tea party that has erupted into a fight scene. Even though I don't need to create people for it I think I might just as a challenge for me.

Another win under my belt

Hopefully you saw on another post that I had won a competition to have my work up outside Lincoln Cathedral. Well I have more good news, I have won another competition. This time my work will be hung in the new Extension of University of Lincoln Library. I am just so happy. Last time I was this happy I was given a onesie for my birthday.

Trumpet and horn speaker

Have a project due in on Tuesday that involved creating a desktop item out of other unused items. So I have created this speaker. The idea is the speaker itself it in the trumpet.
I am so happy with this design.
Hopefully after it has been marked I get to take it home and get it working!
